Vanie Poyey has been a visual artist since she could hold a
pencil (that was a long time ago).
Influenced by her father, who was a whiz with the camera, she
has been shooting pictures since her teens!
As a teen, Vanie honed her skills while documenting her social
life and currently, she enjoys documenting
her trips outside the U.S. Her time spent studying visual arts
both at the LA County High School for the Arts
and at Otis, one of the most prestigious art schools in the
nation, led her to an even greater passion for photography
and all other arts. In fact, she dabbled in some acting, and
being surrounded by actors, she discovered a love for
shooting head shots. Her firsthand knowledge of the business
has made her the photographer she is today,
not only for actors but, for all sorts of creative personalities.
Her latest work includes musical talents Ludacris, Snoop Dogg,
and Nelly including Grammy winners Harold Lilly
and j.Que. She’s also taken head shots for such sports personalities
as Cal Ripken Jr., David Ortiz, Derek Jeter,
and Dale Earnheardt Jr.
Vanie's
work has been featured in national ad campaigns in publications
such as USA Today, The New York Times,
The Washington Post, Pontiac's Performance magazine, Mediaweek,
and many others. Her commercial work can
also be seen in national web banner ads, on standees and kiosks,
and on banners on the side of
Madison Square Garden in New York City!
Her clients can be seen daily in commercials, on TV shows like
Nip/Tuck, and in films such as Secretary, Batman, and Bewitched.

After a four year course in graphic design at Hornsey College
of Art, I was lucky enough to land a job at
Vogue Magazine in London as assistant Art Director. Thanks to
then Art Director John Parsons , I learned
much about the importance of composition & content within the
frame of a photograph. After working for
two yeas, on a daily basis, with Vogue's contract photographers
and other visiting photographers on
assignment to Vogue I asked to be transferred to Vogue's Studios
as an assistant photographer. I had literally
fallen in love with the art of photography and what a great
place to learn the mechanics and art of photography.
I was privileged to work and learn from some of the greatest
in the business. I am still in awe of such masters
as Norman Parkinson, who I assisted on a regular basis when
he was shooting for Vogue. Others who I
assisted on many occasions were Cecil Beaton, Helmut Newton,
David Baily and Richard Avedon.
Working for Conde Nast meant that I had to become proficient
not only shooting people and fashion, but
also shooting and constructing sets for House & Garden, and
product such as jewelry, food etc. for all of
Conde Nast's other Magazines.
Living now in Los Angeles, California I am able to shoot a vide
variety of assignments. From celebrities in
their fabulous homes to commercial shoots for Macy's, Shell,
Isuzu, Suzuki, Peterbilt and a number of others.
My Editorial work has been published in over 100 countries around
the world and I have been lucky to have
worked with some fine editors who allowed me to shoot without
too many constraints and with
a great deal of freedom.
